Hannya in Japanese translates to ‘wisdom’ and the masks are often seen as a symbol of good luck, a talisman against evil and bad vibes. They also serve as a reminder to be wise in your romantic life as the hannya mask is also used in japanese Noh theatre to portray the souls of women who have become demons due to obsession or jealousy.

These glow in the dark masks, use hand blown glow glass from fremont antique glass imported from seattle. To which I hand painted with liquid glass ‘paint’ and fused in the kiln to permanently be a part of the glass. This particular one was hand painted with a japanese ryu dragon along the entire mask along with peony floral along the edge.

Each peice is entirely hand made by me from pattern to execution.

they are meant to be hung on the wall or in the window and comes with a suede cord that can be adjusted to your length of choice.

Glow glass is very reactive and instantly charged by black light, but direct sunlight, or certain indoor lights (LED does not seem to work so well) will charge the glass and allow it glow in the dark.
